Winter Gardening Weekend 2026
It’s that time of year again with the winter nights drawing in why not think ahead and start planning for spring with a visit to our ever popular Llandysul Gardening Weekend! Why not join us on the 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd of February for this lovely event. Yes we are keeping to the 4 day format as we have so much to do.
We have a fantastic line up of speakers for you. We have talks form TV presenters Adam yn yr Ardd (S4C) and Sue Kent (Gardeners World), Malcolm Berry will be back as well as talks from, David Wheeler of Hortus , Justine Burgess of West Wales Willows, Connor O’Donooghue from APHA (Animal and Plant Health Agency), Roddy Milne head gardener at Picton Castle, Janine Richter propagator at Farmyard Nurseries and Richard and Ruth Bramley. With subjects ranging from Hellebores to Gardening in wet Wales, Houseplants, and so much more. The local Hall will be filled, as usual, with masses of interesting plants grown at the nursery. To whet your appetite this year, as well as a huge selection of our world renowned Hellebores, there will be a good range of young perennial plants in 9 cm. pots at bargain prices, cottage garden plants, shrubs, riots of colourful Primulas, Daffodils and Snowdrops to mention but a few. We also have a good selection of rare and unusual perennials.
The main display this years Llandysul Gardening Weekend, as always, is a closely guarded secret. The theme is taking shape but no one (including Richard who designs it) really knows until the day. Come and give us your opinions! One thing is certain there will be Hellebores there somewhere, this year we have several stunning new varieties that are to be incorporated into the display, most of which will be available as seed or young plants on the day.

10.40 Richard Bramley – Hellebores – an addiction.
One of Richards passions these winter flowering beauties are a sight to behold, shining out during the harshest of the winter months. Come and listen to how the passion started, from the first meeting with Helen Ballard to present day. We grow many thousands of these beauties, the colour range is getting better every year and new forms are being hybridised all the while. Very humorous this is one not to be missed and if you’re really unlucky Mabel, the youngest addition to the Jack Russel family, might be here too.
1.00 Sue Kent – Perennials in Pots
Sue works as a television presenter. She is best known for her work on BBC Two’s Gardeners’ World and Garden Rescue programmes, she is also an ambassador for the RHS. Sue will be discussing some of her favourite plants to give good interest for pots to add some cheer into any garden.
3.15 Roddy Milne – Evergreens for Winter Effect
Roddy is head gardener at Picton Castle, he will be sharing some of his vast knowledge with us on hardy palm trees, big evergreen ferns, Mahonia and other plants for the tropical winter scene.

10.40 Adam yn yr Ardd – The Do’s and Don’ts of Gardening in a Welsh Climate
Adam is an experienced gardener who advocates organic and nature-friendly gardening. Adam shares his life in the garden on Instagram (@adamynyrardd). The social media influencer is also a familiar face on S4C on Prynhawn Da, Heno and now Garddio a Mwy. In this talk he will be giving us his best tips and tricks for gardening in our wet climate
1 .00 Conor O’Donoghue – Invasive Plants
Conor works for the Non-Native Species Inspectorate, a part of the Animal Plant Health Agency, his job entails ensuring that our environment and economy are kept safe from non native species. He will be providing an interesting talk to help you understand which plants are invasive and how to control them?
3.15 Richard & Ruth Bramley – The Shows
Father & daughter will recant the tale of their adventures of doing the shows together, the trials and tribulations, and gaining GOLD. It starts first with their collaboration at RHS Chelsea Flower Show with Donnacha Cahill Artist/Sculptor where they achieved a 5star award, closely followed by RHS Hampton Court and the amazing Gold Medal

10.40 David Wheeler – Perfect Bedfellows
David is a British gardener, writer and journalist. He founded the literary gardening quarterly Hortus in 1987 and continues as its editor. In 2009 the RHS awarded him their Gold Veitch Memorial Medal. We are very fortunate that he will be joining us to give an illustrated talk on the growing together of Japanese Maples and Hydrangeas.
1.00 Richard Bramley – Hellebores, The Way Forward
I’m sure you know by now that Hellebores are a passion of Richards, and here at the nursery we have quite a selection. Richard will be discussing not only his love for the traditional Hellebore, but he will be diving into some of the newer forms, colours and hybrids ?
3.15 Janine Richter – Propagating for the Nursery
Janine (ex Hilliers) has been in charge of propagation here at the nursery for a few years, she brought with her to the job a wealth of expertise and knowledge, she will discuss the techniques and the joy of growing plants from bits of other plants

10.40 Ruth Bramley – Popular House Plants for the Beginner
As you may know we now have a lovely house plant section here at the nursery run by Richard’s daughter, Ruth. The whole thing has been a learning curve but we feel that now we are in a position to tell you about our successes and failures and how to tend and care for these very trendy additions to your living space. Did you know about the health benefits of house plants… almost an elixir of life.
1.00 Malcolm Berry – Understanding Soil
Malcolm is also known as ‘The dreaded Gardener’ he is a tutor/speaker on natural gardening, promoting home food production and the encouragement of biodiversity. In his talk Understanding Soil he will discuss how having a good understanding is a fundamental part of our success or failure
3.15 Justine Burgess – No Dig Gardening
Justine owns West Wales Willows and holds the Plant Heritage National Plant Collection status for Salix/Willow. Taking a break from willows for the day Justine will be talking about No Dig Gardening and explaining how no dig makes life easier, and helps plants grow more healthily, with fewer weeds.
The whole event is free and if gardening is not quite your forte there will be other stalls there to tempt you. Tea, coffee and cakes are in abundance.
