Description
Monstera deliciosa ‘Variegata’
Monstera deliciosa ‘Variegata’ is a stunning variegated form of the beloved Swiss cheese plant, prized for its dramatic white and green irregularly variegated foliage. As a houseplant, this climbing aroid typically reaches heights of 1.5-2.5 metres indoors, though it can grow much larger. The characteristic fenestrated leaves develop striking cream-white variegation patterns that make each leaf unique. Young plants start with smaller, heart-shaped leaves that gradually develop the iconic splits and holes as they mature.
Culturally, this variegated monstera requires bright, indirect light to maintain its stunning variegation, too little light causes reversion to green. It thrives in well-draining, chunky potting mix and prefers temperatures between 18-26°C with high humidity levels of 60% or above. Water when the top 2-3cm of soil feels dry, and provide a moss pole or trellis for climbing support. Feed monthly during growing season with balanced liquid fertiliser. Due to reduced chlorophyll in variegated sections, growth is slower than the standard green form, making these plants highly sought-after collectibles.
