Codonanthe gracilis is a charming epiphytic houseplant belonging to the Gesneriaceae family, native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. This compact trailing species typically reaches heights of 15-25cm with cascading stems that can extend up to 60cm, making it perfect for hanging baskets or as a trailing accent plant. The plant features small, glossy, oval-shaped leaves that are thick and succulent-like, often developing attractive reddish undersides when grown in bright conditions.

Culturally, Codonanthe gracilis thrives in bright, indirect light and high humidity levels of 50-70%. It prefers well-draining, slightly acidic potting mix that retains some moisture without becoming waterlogged. Maintain temperatures between 18-24°C and water when the top layer of soil feels dry. During the growing season, feed monthly with a diluted orchid fertiliser. The plant produces small, tubular white flowers with yellow throats, followed by attractive orange berries. It’s an excellent choice for terrariums or as a houseplant in bathrooms where humidity is naturally higher.
