Succisella pratensis, commonly known as Devil’s-bit Scabious or Blue Buttons, is a charming, clump-forming perennial native to Europe. It features delicate, lavender-blue, pincushion-like flowers that bloom from midsummer to early autumn, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The airy, wiry stems rise above a neat mound of lance-shaped green leaves, creating a soft, naturalistic look perfect for wildflower meadows, cottage gardens, or informal borders. Thriving in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil, Succisella pratensis reaches around 60–80cm tall. It offers excellent late-season colour, ecological value, and an elegant, understated presence in pollinator-friendly garden spaces.
