Solidago ‘Foxbrook Gold’

Solidago ‘Foxbrook Gold’ is a floriferous, upright herbaceous perennial raised by British plantsman John Williams, part of his acclaimed “Foxbrook” series of goldenrods. It typically reaches around 60cm in height, forming sturdy, self-supporting clumps of wrinkled, mid-green foliage that provide good structure through the growing season.

From late summer into early autumn, the plant is smothered in dense, feathery sprays of bright golden-yellow flowers, held well above the foliage on strong stems. These blooms are a magnet for bees, butterflies and other pollinators, and the spent flowerheads develop attractive fluffy seedheads that extend interest into winter.

Cultivation is easy: grow in full sun in any moderately fertile, well-drained soil. It is fully hardy in the UK and requires minimal maintenance, though staking is rarely needed given its sturdy habit. Cut back old growth in late winter or early spring, and divide congested clumps every few years to maintain vigour. It suits herbaceous borders, prairie-style and naturalistic planting schemes.
