Seemannia nematanthodes is a charming tuberous perennial from the gesneriad family, native to the Andean regions of South America. This compact plant typically reaches heights of 20-30cm, making it ideal for containers, hanging baskets, or as an indoor houseplant. The species produces attractive, velvety, heart-shaped leaves with prominent veining, creating an appealing textural display. During its flowering period, it bears striking tubular orange-red flowers that emerge from the leaf axils, adding vibrant colour to any collection.

Culturally, Seemannia nematanthodes requires bright, indirect light and well-draining, humus-rich soil. It thrives in temperatures between 16-24°C with moderate to high humidity levels. Water regularly during the growing season, keeping soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. The plant enters dormancy in winter when the foliage dies back to underground tubers reduce watering significantly during this period. Feed fortnightly with diluted liquid fertiliser during active growth. Propagation can be achieved through division of tubers or leaf cuttings in spring.
