Description
Sarracenia ‘Arthur Wheeler’
Sarracenia ‘Arthur Wheeler’ is a spectacular carnivorous pitcher plant hybrid bred by Gary Wheeler and named after his father. This striking cultivar combines traits from its parental heritage of Sarracenia leucophylla, Sarracenia flava, Sarracenia rubra, and Sarracenia alata, resulting in a vigorous, colourful plant that transforms throughout the season. In spring, the pitchers emerge bright green before maturing to a rich copper with dramatic dark veining. At peak maturity, they develop an elegant white background with bold maroon veins, creating a stunning contrast.
The ruffled lid is particularly eye-catching, displaying a creamy white surface laced with deep red veins. The throat transitions from soft pink to a deep wine-red with age. Reaching 50-60cm tall, these statuesque pitchers make an impressive display. When flowering, it produces cheerful yellow petals with bracts edged in a delicate orange blush.
