Description
A neat and compact form of S. swaniana (S. purpurea x S minor) with reddish tinged pitchers which darken with age to a lovely glowing burgundy red. The pitchers a short and fat with a curving habit. The inside of the lids are green and veined heavily. Height 20-30cm (8-12″). Like all Sarracenias they need to stand in 2.5cm (1″) of soft (rain) water in acidic nutrient-less soil in full sun for good growth. They are efficient fly and wasp catchers both indoors and out. Good as container plants. Keep well hydrated spring to autumn but keep just damp in winter. Needs a cold winter dormancy for long term plant health. Good flycatchers for a sunny window sill. Plants may be sent bare rooted.
