Description

Sarracenia ‘Roy Cheek’

Sarracenia ‘Roy Cheek’ is a stunning hybrid carnivorous plant, a cross between S. alata and S. flava (Sarracenia × soperi). This stunning pitcher plant typically reaches heights of 20-30cm, producing distinctive trumpet-shaped pitchers with striking seasonal colour changes. The pitchers begin the growing season with green tops that gradually transform into deep purple, almost black colouration as the season progresses. Named after the renowned carnivorous plant enthusiast Roy Cheek, this cultivar is prized for its robust growth and dramatic colour transformation.

Culturally, this Sarracenia requires constantly moist, mineral-free water such as rainwater or distilled water. Place the pot in a tray of water during the growing season. It thrives in full sun to bright light and requires a dormancy period of 3-4 months at temperatures between 2-10°C during winter. Use a soil mix of sphagnum peat and perlite or sand. Feed occasionally with small insects if grown indoors. This hardy plant is excellent for bog gardens or as a fascinating houseplant for carnivorous plant enthusiasts.
