Sanguisorba ‘Jam Session’

Sanguisorba ‘Jam Session’ is a striking herbaceous perennial that brings elegance and movement to the garden. This cultivar typically reaches heights of 90-120cm, with an upright, clump-forming habit. From mid-summer through to autumn, it produces abundant, bottlebrush-like flower spikes in pure white that dance gracefully above the finely divided, pinnate foliage. The flowers are excellent for cutting and attract pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies.

Culturally, ‘Jam Session’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It tolerates clay soils well and has good drought resistance once established. This burnet is fully hardy and requires minimal maintenance, simply cut back dead growth in late winter or early spring. It rarely needs staking despite its height. Divide congested clumps every 3-4 years to maintain vigour. This variety pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses and late-summer perennials in prairie-style plantings.
