Description

Salvia yangii, formerly known as Perovskia ‘Silvery Blue,’ is a compact deciduous sub-shrub reaching up to 60cm. Its silvery stems bear aromatic, silvery-grey leaves, and in late summer and autumn, it produces airy, branched spikes of purple-blue flowers. When planted in generous drifts, this new form creates a shimmering haze of late color. Thriving in hot, sun-drenched positions, it withstands drought once established, offering a Mediterranean feel with its aromatic foliage and lavender-blue flowers. Resilient to neglect, it adapts to dry, chalky soils, and coastal conditions.Height 60-cm (2′) In March, prune back to the permanent framework, and after pruning, apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
