Panicum virgatum ‘Shenandoah’, commonly known as Switch Grass ‘Shenandoah’, is a striking ornamental grass that adds both structure and colour to the garden. This cultivar is prized for its distinctive foliage, which emerges blue-green in spring, then develops dramatic burgundy-red tips by midsummer. As autumn approaches, the entire plant transforms into a rich wine-red, creating a spectacular display.

Growing in an upright, vase-shaped clump, ‘Shenandoah’ typically reaches a height of 90-120 cm. Its slender leaves are complemented by airy panicles of tiny, pinkish flowers that appear in late summer, adding a delicate texture to the robust form. These flower heads mature into seedheads that persist through winter, providing food for birds and winter interest.
