Molinia caerulea, commonly known as purple moor grass, is a graceful, clump-forming ornamental grass native to Europe. It forms neat mounds of narrow, arching green leaves, from which tall, slender stems rise in summer carrying delicate, airy flower panicles. These fine blooms emerge purple-tinged before maturing to soft golden-brown, adding movement and texture to the garden. In autumn, the foliage turns glowing shades of yellow and amber, extending its seasonal interest. Growing well in full sun or partial shade, Molinia caerulea thrives in moist, well-drained soil and is ideal for naturalistic plantings, damp meadows, and mixed borders.
