Description
Lavandula Edelweiss
Lavandula ‘Edelweiss’ is a stunning white-flowered lavender cultivar that brings elegance and fragrance to any garden. This compact evergreen shrub typically reaches heights of 30-45cm with a similar spread, making it perfect for borders, containers, or low hedging. The plant features the classic silvery-grey aromatic foliage characteristic of lavender, topped with dense spikes of pure white flowers that bloom from early summer through to autumn, creating a beautiful contrast against the grey-green leaves.
Culturally, Lavandula ‘Edelweiss’ thrives in full sun and well-draining, alkaline soil, making it drought-tolerant once established. It’s hardy to approximately -10°C, suitable for most UK gardens with winter protection in colder regions. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage repeat blooming. Avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot. The flowers are excellent for cutting and drying, whilst the aromatic foliage repels insects naturally. This variety is particularly valued by bees and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for wildlife gardens.
