Kniphofia uvaria ‘Christmas Cheer’ is a striking herbaceous perennial commonly known as red hot poker. This vibrant cultivar produces distinctive flower spikes in shades of coral-red and cream-yellow, blooming from late autumn through winter hence its festive name. The plant typically reaches heights of 60-90cm, with flower spikes extending above clumps of narrow, grass-like evergreen foliage.

Culturally, ‘Christmas Cheer’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it ideal for borders and gravel gardens. It tolerates poor, sandy soils but dislikes winter waterlogging. Hardy to around -10°C, it performs best in sheltered positions in colder regions. Water moderately during the growing season and reduce watering in winter. Remove spent flower spikes to encourage further blooms. The evergreen foliage can be tidied in spring by combing through with gloved hands. This variety is excellent for attracting birds and late-season pollinators to the garden.
