Hosta, often called plantain lilies, is a much-loved genus of shade-tolerant perennials celebrated for their striking foliage and adaptability. Native to East Asia, particularly Japan, Korea, and China, Hostas are valued primarily for their bold, architectural leaves, which come in an extraordinary range of shapes, sizes, and colours. From petite miniatures just a few centimetres high to statuesque clumps exceeding a metre across, they provide reliable structure and texture in shaded or partially shaded gardens.
