Description
Egyptian Walking Onion, also known as tree onion, is a fascinating and unusual perennial allium valued for its distinctive growth habit and culinary appeal. Instead of producing conventional flowers, it forms clusters of small bulbils at the top of tall, upright stems. As these mature, the stems bend towards the ground, allowing the bulbils to root and produce new plants—giving this remarkable onion its ‘walking’ name. The slender, green leaves can be harvested throughout the growing season and have a mild onion flavour. Hardy and easy to grow, it thrives in sunny positions and well-drained soil, making it an excellent choice for productive gardens and allotments.
