Hedychium ‘Pink Flame’
Hedychium ‘Pink Flame’, commonly known as Pink Flame Ginger Lily, is a spectacular tender perennial prized for its exotic blooms and lush foliage. This striking cultivar, bred by Tom Wood, produces pale pink flowers with darker pink and yellow central markings, appearing in late summer through autumn. The sweetly fragrant blossoms emerge from cone-like bracts atop tall stems, creating a dramatic tropical display.
Growing to a height of 1.2-1.5 metres, this ginger lily forms substantial clumps of paddle-shaped, glossy green leaves that provide architectural interest even when not in flower. It prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and thrives in moist, humus-rich soil.
In the UK climate, ‘Pink Flame’ requires winter protection, either through lifting and storing the rhizomes or applying a thick mulch in milder regions. It performs beautifully in borders, tropical-themed gardens or large containers. Regular watering and occasional feeding during the growing season will ensure the most impressive flowering display from this sumptuous exotic plant.
