Hedychium densiflorum ‘Mewa Khola’ is a stunning hardy ginger lily that creates a dramatic tropical display in British gardens. This robust perennial typically reaches heights of 1-1.5 metres, forming dense clumps of upright stems clothed in broad, lance-shaped leaves. The compact orange-red flower spikes appear from late summer through autumn, producing densely packed, fragrant blooms that attract butterflies and other pollinators.

Culturally, this ginger lily thrives in moist, fertile, well-draining soil in a sheltered position with partial to full sun. It requires consistent moisture throughout the growing season and benefits from a thick mulch to protect the rhizomes during winter. Hardy to approximately -10°C, the stems die back in winter but re-emerge vigorously in spring. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring and divide clumps every 3-4 years to maintain vigour.
