Ficus pumila, commonly known as creeping fig or climbing fig, is a vigorous evergreen climber native to East Asia. This adaptable plant can reach heights of 3-4 metres when grown as a houseplant. The juvenile foliage features small, heart-shaped leaves approximately 2-4cm long, whilst mature plants develop larger, leathery oval leaves. Its climbing habit is achieved through aerial rootlets that cling tenaciously to surfaces, making it excellent for trailing from hanging baskets.

Culturally, Ficus pumila thrives in bright, indirect light as a houseplant, though it tolerates lower light conditions. It prefers well-draining potting compost kept consistently moist but not waterlogged. Ideal temperatures range from 16-24°C with moderate humidity levels. Regular misting benefits the plant, particularly during winter heating periods. Prune regularly to maintain shape and prevent overwhelming growth. Feed monthly during the growing season with diluted liquid fertiliser. The plant is considered mildly toxic to pets and children if ingested.
