Dichroa febrifuga is an attractive evergreen shrub native to China and the Himalayas, closely related to hydrangeas. This versatile plant typically reaches heights of 1.5-2 metres, forming a rounded, bushy habit. It produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers in shades of blue, pink, or white from late spring through summer, followed by striking metallic blue berries that persist into winter, providing extended seasonal interest.

Culturally, Dichroa febrifuga thrives in partial shade with shelter from cold winds, making it ideal for woodland gardens or mixed borders. It prefers moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil with an acidic to neutral pH. Hardy to approximately -10°C, it benefits from mulching in colder regions. Water regularly during dry spells and feed with an ericaceous fertiliser in spring. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape. The plant is relatively pest-free but should be noted that all parts are toxic if ingested.
