Citrus mitis ‘Calamondin’

Citrus mitis ‘Calamondin’, also known as the Calamondin orange, is a compact, evergreen shrub prized for its ornamental value and ease of cultivation. Glossy, dark green aromatic leaves provide year-round interest, complemented by fragrant white flowers that appear intermittently, often followed by clusters of small, tangerine-like fruits which persist attractively on the plant.

This variety is well suited to growing as a patio or conservatory specimen in the UK, as it is not fully hardy and needs protection from frost. Grow in bright, indirect light in free-draining, ericaceous compost, watering moderately and allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Feed regularly during the growing season with a proprietary citrus fertiliser. Move indoors or into a heated greenhouse over winter, maintaining a minimum temperature of around 5°C.
