Cestrum x cultorum ‘Cretan Purple’ is a stunning evergreen shrub renowned for its prolific display of deep purple, tubular flowers and intoxicating evening fragrance. This vigorous hybrid typically reaches heights of 2-3 metres with a similar spread, creating an impressive focal point in the garden. The plant features lance-shaped, mid-green leaves that provide an attractive backdrop to the clusters of violet-purple blooms that appear from late summer through to the first frosts.

Culturally, ‘Cretan Purple’ thrives in a sheltered, sunny position with well-draining soil, though it will tolerate partial shade. In the UK, it requires protection from harsh frosts and is best grown in a heated greenhouse or conservatory, or moved indoors during winter months. Water regularly during the growing season but allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertiliser from spring to autumn.
