Description
Asparagus filicinus
A beautiful, herbaceous, foliage plant collected by Nick Macer in Manipur, NE India. Produces erect stems that gracefully arch over at the ends from a rhizomatous rootstock. Attractive black berries are produced from the autumn on feathery green foliage. Height 50 to 70 cm.
Culturally, this asparagus fern thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates partial shade. It prefers well-draining, humus-rich soil and temperatures between 10-20°C. Water regularly during the growing season, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and reduce watering in winter. Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertiliser from spring to autumn. Being from a mountainous region, it appreciates good air circulation and moderate humidity. The plant can be propagated by division of the rhizomes in spring or from seed when berries ripen.
