Anemonella thalictroides ‘Kikuzaki Pink’, One of our favourite spring flowering plants. Semi double pale pink anemone-like flowers are borne amidst delicate foliage. A plant that is hardy and yet has a delicacy all of its own. Prefers a semi shaded site in a humus rich soil where it will reward you every year. Wonderful. Height and spread 15cm (6 inches)
It pairs beautifully with other woodland perennials such as Hostas, Ferns, and Tiarellas, creating a lush and enchanting underplanting. Anemonella, often treated as a delicate subgenus of Thalictrum (and now botanically recognised as Thalictrum thalictroides), is a small but enchanting group of woodland perennials prized for their dainty charm and early spring blooms. Native to eastern North America, these plants thrive in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, flourishing in partial to full shade where they bring a soft, ephemeral beauty to the garden.
Commonly known as rue anemones, Anemonella forms small clumps of finely divided, almost fern-like foliage that emerges fresh and bright as winter fades. Above this airy carpet, wiry stems carry elegant, anemone-like flowers in shades of pure white, soft pink, or deeper rose, depending on the variety. Double and semi-double forms, which resemble miniature pom-poms or tiny waterlilies, are especially sought after by collectors.
These plants are spring ephemerals, retreating to dormancy by early summer after their flowering display, making them ideal companions for hostas, ferns, and other later-emerging woodland perennials.
