Scilla ‘Royal Amethyst’

Scilla ‘Royal Amethyst’ is a captivating spring-flowering bulb that produces striking violet-purple blooms. This charming perennial typically reaches heights of 10-15cm, making it perfect for rock gardens, alpine troughs, or naturalising at the front of borders. The plant bears clusters of star-shaped flowers atop slender stems, accompanied by narrow, strap-like foliage that emerges in early spring alongside the blooms.

Culturally, ‘Royal Amethyst’ thrives in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Plant bulbs in autumn at a depth of 5-8cm and space them approximately 5cm apart for best effect. This hardy bulb tolerates a wide range of soil types but dislikes waterlogged conditions. Water moderately during the growing season and allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering to replenish the bulbs. Once established, scillas require minimal maintenance and will naturalise freely, creating drifts of colour. Hardy to -15°C, they’re ideal for naturalising in grass or woodland settings.
