Pelargonium ‘White Bird’s Egg’

Pelargonium ‘White Bird’s Egg’ is a zonal pelargonium belonging to the old “Bird’s Egg” group, so named for the fine speckling on the petals that resembles the markings of a bird’s egg. It forms a compact, bushy plant, typically reaching around 30-40cm in height and spread, with rounded, mid-green leaves showing a faint darker zone.

The flowers are single, held in neat clusters above the foliage. The petals are white, delicately freckled with fine reddish-maroon speckling, giving the blooms a distinctive, understated charm quite different from the bolder, solid-coloured zonal varieties.

Cultivation follows that of other zonal pelargoniums: grow in full sun in free-draining, moderately fertile compost, and protect from frost. Water when the compost starts to dry and feed during the growing season. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering, and overwinter under glass in a cool, frost-free spot with the compost kept nearly dry.
