Description
Hoya burtoniae variegata
Hoya burtoniae variegata is a stunning climbing epiphyte native to the Philippines, prized for its spectacular variegated foliage. This vigorous grower can reach heights of 1-2 metres when provided with adequate support, making it an excellent choice for trellises or moss poles. The thick, succulent leaves display beautiful cream and green variegation, with some leaves showing pink tinges in bright light. The plant produces clusters of fragrant, waxy, star-shaped flowers in shades of pink to burgundy.
Culturally, this hoya thrives in bright, indirect light with some morning sun to enhance variegation. It prefers well-draining, chunky potting mix and temperatures between 18-26°C. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and maintain humidity levels of 50-70% for optimal growth. Feed monthly during spring and summer with diluted liquid fertiliser. The plant benefits from a winter rest period with reduced watering. Propagation is easily achieved through stem cuttings with nodes in spring or summer.
