A rather interesting and unusual member of the nettle family from Japan. Collected by Patrick Blanc, It inhabits moist shady spots and has a beautiful semi trailing habit. Serrated leaves on arching stems bear small greenish white flowers March-May. Purple bulbils form in the leaf axils . Can be eaten as a wild vegetable. Height 20-30 cm. Interesting, forming a lush green mound. Associates well with another shade lovers especially ferns.
