Eryngium paniculatum is an unusual and striking perennial, admired for its airy elegance and long season of interest. Native to South America, it forms a graceful clump of finely divided foliage, topped in summer with branching stems carrying masses of tiny, globuklar, sage green almost thistle-like flowers. These spiky heads are held in clusters creating a soft, textured effect that works beautifully in naturalistic planting schemes and prairie-style borders. Highly attractive to bees and butterflies, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. With its wiry stems and lasting seedheads, it also makes an excellent cut flower.
