HelleborusHelleborus are the jewels of the winter months and one of our claims to fame is our collection of these wonderful plants. Bred almost entirely from the famous Helen Ballard line of plants, acquired just before her unfortunate death, their colour range is almost infinite ranging from pure white through to deepest purple/black, including all shades of pink, cream, primrose-yellow, smokey purple and pinkish red. Many are attractively spotted and mottled and by clicking on the sample thumbnails below you can get a better idea of the plants we have available. For a look at species hellebores page click here. It is also possible to buy specific hellebores on ebay. see here for details Click on thumb nails for larger picture Click on thumb nails for larger picture As a general rule our plants are bred along Ballard lines, that is strong garden worthy plants that are able to stand up to the rigors of outdoor conditions, with large outward facing flowers. Seed is taken from only the strongest plants and care is taken to breed for vigour and disease resistance as well as for flower colour, after all what is the point of growing plants with superb flowers if they won't grow in the garden. A new line of semi double or anemone flowered hybrids are due to come into production this year. These are entirely our own breeding and are still in their infancy with limited colour range and flower shape, however they are highly desirable and sought after so availability is severely limited. A wide range of both double torquatus helleborus hybrids and double hybrid hellebores are now available. The torquatus doubles vary from fully double to semi double, are dwarf and make exquisite woodland plants. We expect demand to far outstrip supply. Following on from these are the orientalis hybrid doubles, far stronger and more garden worthy. Click on the above links for details.
