The popularity of the species hellebores are limited to a few fellow enthusiasts, however they are a very interesting group of plants, possesing a charm of their own and should not be dismissed. Few are good general garden plants, the exceptions being H. x sternii, H. argutifolius and H. foetidus and their relevant cultivars. H. niger is very popular and freely available but is very site specific. Please click on pictures for larger view
The following page is dedicated to those of us who would like to try to muddle through the mine field of these lovely plants, it is a nightmare but we feel that our identification is sufficiently good to try to create a reference for lost souls.
