Ranunculus ficaria (Celandine) These charming woodland or border plants are really gaining in popularity as their simple beauty is appreciated for what it is. Their starry flowers borne over a long period during the late winter and early spring months are an absolute joy to behold. What makes them so appealing is their ability to grow, flower and become dormant all before May. They spead rapidly yet never become invasive. They propagate very easily from their small tuber-like roots and soon form large low carpets studded with bright flowers. Don't be decieved by the bright yellow cultivars, these may well be eye-catchingly glaring but there are numerous subtlely coloured cultivars, pale primrose or white, that compliment the low light level plants of late winter such as Hellebores, Snowdrops and Wood Anemones. No woodland garden is complete without them.
